Is it possible to configure WebHelpDesk (running on OS X Server) to authenticate via OpenDirectory? If so, what is the configuration process? I would assume it's similar to ActiveDirectory, but there are some substantial differences in the way the back-ends work.

open directory is ldap - so just create a new ldap connection under setup -> clients
i dont think that there are big problems to hook them together

Thanks for the quick response, Mathias. I just went back to check, but there isn't an LDAP option listed under Setup > General > Authentication. The only options are:
    - WebHelpDesk
    - SAML
    - CAS
    - Servlet
    - HTTP Header
    - HTTP Form Value

I could swear I saw it there in the past?

nope - its under setup -> clients

you setup the sync for your clients with a ldap connection
from this moment on these clients will be able to login to your helpdesk
your tech user needed to be added manually and linkt to the client object

i chose webhelpdesk under authentication which gives you the standard web form thingy

When using Open Directory for LDAP Authentication, make sure you use SSL if you are using Simple Client Authentication otherwise passwords are sent over in plain text.

Under the Setup > General > Authentication settings, use Web Help Desk Authentication setting.
